Criminal charges will not be filed in the death of Prince, Carver County Attorney Mark Metz said on Thursday.  According to Metz, Prince died from a counterfeit version of the painkiller Vicodin that was laced with fentanyl.

Metz added that "despite the intensive law enforcement investigation, there is no reliable evidence showing how Prince obtained the counterfeit Vicodin laced with fentanyl, or who else may have had a role in delivering the counterfeit Vicodin to Prince."  The Carver County Attorney concluded that without no identified suspect, proceeding with criminal charges would not happen.

Prince was found unresponsive in an elevator at his Paisley Park home on April 21, 2016 in Chanhassen, Minnesota.  A toxicology report obtained by the Associated Press revealed that the singer died from an "exceedingly high" dose of fentanyl in his system when he died.

Law enforcement released images of prince's Paisley Park estate, containing images of medications, personal belongings, a money bag, and the elevator where he was found dead.
